Framed Valentine’s Home Decor Idea

Do you ever get tired of what you have hanging on your walls? I do sometimes, and when I feel that way, I like to create something new to jazz up the place. Since Valentines is just around the corner, here’s a “beary” cute idea to try. You’ll need an 8″ x 8″ shadow box frame. I found mine on sale at Michael’s.

This photo shows a technique of how to make a yellow die cut bee hive that has colored accents of the stripes and entry hole done in brown ink.

Making the Hive Colored Technique:

Referring to the photo above, I laid the hive die face up on a protective scrap of paper on my die cutting machine platform. I pressed my Pecan Pie ink pad face down to ink the inside parts of the die. I laid the square of Crushed Curry on top of the die. Added my upper plate and ran it through the machine. Looking at the two hive samples you can see the effect of more ink applied to the die.

Framed Home Decor Assembly Process:

Adhere the yellow plaid to the white backing piece from the DSP package.

Die cut the Deckled Circle out of the Thick Basic White. With a ruler and pencil, mark where 4″ is on each edge of the plaid square. This will help you find the precise center to place and adhere the circle.

Stamp the tag greeting in Sweet Sorbet ink. Die cut the Daffodil Delight for the Bear’s Den. Prepare your Hive using the technique above. Stamp the Bear image with Memento Tuxedo Black Ink. Tie your Ribbon Bow. Have all the needed fussy cut images ready to go.

Next position where the bear’s den and stamped greeting tag sit inside the circle. Lay out the fussy cut pieces next to the deckled circle edge. (Do not adhere these pieces yet.)

Color the bear using the photo as reference with the assorted Stampin’ Blends. Work from lightest shade on bear’s nose, to the next lightest shade for the rest of the body. Then moving to the darkest color, work your way in using short strokes to create “fur”. Continue with the other shades of brown until the bear is pleasing to your eye. Color the honey pot with both shades of Sweet Sorbet and the dripping honey with both shades of Daffodil Delight. When happy with your result, die cut the bear out. Add Dimensionals to the bear, hive and tag. (Do not adhere yet.)

After you have experimented with placement of all the images, then go ahead and stamp the two sets of 3 bees from the Fluffiest Friends stamp set in Memento ink on the den piece. Then adhere the den in its place. Affix the greeting tag. trim off the overhanging portions of the white cardstock so it lines up with the edge of the deckled circle. Affix the bear sitting on top of the tag edge.

Now start affixing the bees and jars so they are equally spaced and overlap the edge of the deckled circle. Some jars are glued directly to the plaid and some are raised up on mini dimensionals. All bees are raised up. Finish your project by adding the bow and the Adhesive-Backed Hearts and Flowers as shown.

Place your completed project into your purchased frame and find a special spot to display it! Fabulous!
