This Quilted Look – Book Fun Fold Card design combines two of my crafting passions: quilting and cardmaking. Valentine’s Day is just around the corner, and what better way to send a little love than with these handmade cards that are as unique as a quilt? Using the stunning Marbled Elegance Designer Series Specialty Paper, Basic Black and Basic White cardstock and the versatile Greetings for All Mix and Match Ephemera Pack from Stampin’ Up!, I’ve created cards that are layered, textured, and full of love. I was inspired by The Chirpy Cardmaker of Quilts – and more.
The “quilt” itself comes together by layering papers in a geometric design, giving the illusion of a stitched quilt block. To take it to the next level, I ran the quilted panel through my die cut machine inside of an embossing folder of my choice, adding that perfect touch of dimension and texture.
These cards are not only a heartfelt keepsake but also a time-saver for busy crafters. The Book Fun Fold design provides the ideal canvas for the quilt block, while the ephemera pack makes adding sentiments like “XOXO” and “Happy Valentine’s Day” a breeze. Keep reading for the step-by-step instructions on how to create this card design and bring a little handmade warmth to your loved ones this Valentine’s Day!
The Greetings for All Mix and Match Ephemera Pack provides 3 sheets of all-occasion greetings, 2 sheets of each, for a total of 6 sheets. If I have counted correctly, you get a total of 104 greetings in this one pack! That’s a LOT of cards you can make!
Some Important Details
I don’t know about you but I can’t stand “naked” envelopes, so adding a piece of the Designer Series Paper is always a nice touch to create a complete matching set. The embossing folder I used on this Real Red version was the Distressed Tile 3D. It is easier to see the embossing folder design on the 1″ x 4″ strip, but the quilt square also was embossed with it.
Write Your Personalized Message
Since the Basic White cardstock inside message layer of the card is only 4″ x 4″, that doesn’t give you a lot of room to write a heartfelt message. I chose to add a heart punched from Melon Mambo cardstock and the Valentine’s greeting on the backside of the card front. It will be a nice surprise when your recipient opens the card.
It is very difficult to see, but I used the Cute Crochet 3D embossing folder on the pink card above. I think it needed a different sandwich on my die cutting machine as it didn’t emboss as deep as I’d hoped for.
Measurements & Directions for the Quilted Look – Book Fun Fold Valentine’s Card (the list below is in order of assembly)
- Basic Black cardstock card base – Cut 4 1/4″ x 11″, score at 4 1/4″ and 5 1/2″, burnish score lines with bone folder
- Marbled Elegance Designer Series Specialty Paper (DSP) – Cut 1″ x 4″ and 4″ square, adhere to card base
- Basic White cardstock layer – Cut 3 1/4″ square
- DSP – Cut 3″ square, two 1 1/2″ squares, adhere the 3″ square to the Basic White, then adhere the 1 1/2″ squares diagonally from each other
- Basic White cardstock – Cut 1/2″ square, then cut diagonally both directions which creates 4 equal smaller triangles, adhere using photo as reference
- Basic White cardstock – Cut 1 1/8″ square, place and adhere in center of “block” with corners aligning as shown in photo
- Basic White cardstock – Cut 1 5/16″ square, place ad adhere in center of “block” with sides parallel to the base Basic White layer
- Run this thick layer through die cut machine inside an embossing folder of your choice. (Creates quilted look)
- Adhere the embossed quilted square flat to card front with even margins
- If desired die cut a heart from the DSP using the Hearts of Elegance Dies, raise on dimensionals in center as shown in photo
- Add your choice of sentiment from the Greetings for All Mix and Match Ephemera Pack, raised on dimensionals
- For the inside of the card – Cut Basic White cardstock 4″ square and adhere as shown in photo below
- With a piece of DSP or Melon Mambo cardstock die cut a heart from the Hearts of Elegance Dies, adhere to left inside of card. Adhere your choice of sentiment on top of the heart
- Optional – add any embellishments of your choice to card front or 1″ x 4″ section
- Envelope Flap – Cut DSP 2 1/4″ x 6″, adhere securely to envelope flap and trim off excess with paper snips.
The lesson I learned with these cards, is you can make the choice to use an embossing folder or not depending on what you have to choose from. The embossing folder design makes all the difference and enough pressure is the trick to getting a deeply embossed pattern. The quilt is actually a total of 5 layers thick. (3 cardstock and 2 DSP) so that is why it requires a lot of pressure to emboss all through those layers.
Additional Tools Needed to Complete These Cards:
- Paper Trimmer with Scoring Tool
- Die Cutting Machine
- Adhesives you like to use, I recommend Stampin’ Seal
- Dimensionals
- Paper Snips

The combination of the Marbled Elegance Designer Series Specialty Paper, the textured embossing, and the charming Greetings for All Mix and Match Ephemera Pack makes this card as delightful to create as it is to receive.
What I love most about this design is how it brings the warmth of quilting into the world of paper crafting. The layered patterns and embossed textures truly mimic the look of a handmade quilt, adding a heartfelt touch to your Valentine’s greetings. Plus, with the Book Fun Fold as the foundation, you have plenty of space to customize the inside with a handwritten message or even more embellishments.
